Water...what's the purpose?

Got water?

Failing to take in enough water leads to dehydration. Even mild dehydration — as little as a 1 to 2 percent loss of your body weight — can sap your energy and make you tired. It's not a good idea to use thirst alone as a guide for when to drink. By the time one becomes thirsty, it is possible to already be slightly dehydrated. Further, be aware that as you get older, your body is less able to sense dehydration and send your brain signals of thirst. Read more here.

What kind of water?

Everybody knows they need to drink water, but what kind? Tap water? Bottled Water? Spring water? Distilled Water? Let's examine:

→ Tap water. Water straight from the tap may contain toxin, heavy metals, pesticides, bacteria, and other microbes. Chemicals that are also toxic to our bodies are actually added to the water. Yes, they may kill certain germs in the water, but did you ever stop to think what else they are doing once they enter your body? Toxic means just that, deadly.

→ Bottled water. Did you know...

  • the only government requrement of bottled water is that it be just as safe as tap water
  • About 1/4 of bottled water is actally tap water, in a clever pretty plastic disguise
  • Plasticizers (substances added to plastics to make them pliable) from the bottle leach into your water over time, which introduce more toxins into the body
  • A single plastic bottle takes hundreds of years to biodegrade

If you're not conscious about the quality of bottled water you are purchasing, buying bottled waters can be worse than drinking straight from the tap, because now you're paying to drink the same toxic water...and at the same time hurting the environment, as plastic is less environmentally friendly. If you buy bottled water, it is best to purchase in glass containers, if this option is available to you.
